Category | Scope of calculation | (2022) | 2022 | 2023 | Calculation method |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Purchased goods and services | (606,018) | 648,989 | 615,992 | Calculated by multiplying the Groupʼs purchases by per-unit emissions of individual purchases based on the number obtained by multiplying the carbon footprint of products (CFP) data of core products by the number of products. In the case of businesses for which CFP data is not available, calculated by multiplying the amount purchased by per-unit intensity indicated on the Input-Output Tables of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry |
| Capital goods | (34,286) | 40,853 | 36,335 | Calculated by multiplying the amount of capital goods purchased by the Group by the intensity indicated on the Input-Output Tables of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. |
| Fuel- and energy-related activities not included in Scope 1 or 2 | (12,382) | 12,363 | 13,773 | Calculated by multiplying the amount of fuel and energy consumed by the Group by the intensity at the time of fuel procurement (resource extraction, production, and delivery). |
| Upstream transportation and distribution | (4,999) | 6,095 | 7,685 | Deliveries to customers are calculated using the fuel consumption method. Deliveries between warehouses are calculated using the ton-kilometer method. |
| Waste generated in operations | (1,153) | 1,613 | 1,631 | Calculated by multiplying the Groupʼs total volume of waste, excluding the volume of used Canon products previously recorded under Category 12 “End-of-life treatment of sold products,” by the emissions intensity by type of waste and treatment method. |
| Business travel | (2,488) | 7,513 | 9,075 | Calculated by multiplying the amount paid for each mode of transportation during the business trip by per-unit emissions of each mode. |
| Employee commuting | (7,488) | 7,132 | 6,284 | Calculated by multiplying the amount paid for each mode of transportation during the commute by the emissions intensity of each mode. In the case of private car commuting, calculated by converting the total mileage to fuel usage and multiplying it by the intensity for fuel combustion. |
| Upstream leased assets | (0) | 0 | 0 | Encompasses leased buildings and vehicles and included in Scope 1 and 2 |
| Downstream transportation and distribution | (1,293) | 3,338 | 2,814 | Calculated by determining average transportation distances and weights of distributed products for each region and multiplying it by the intensity of transportation. Storage is calculated by multiplying the average annual inventory volume by energy intensity. |
| Processing of sold products | (0) | 0 | 0 | Not applicable |
| Use of sold products | (107,649) | 106,210 | 95,443 | Calculated by determining the lifetime power consumption for main products and multiplying it by the CO2 emission factor published by The Electric Power Council for a Low Carbon Society. |
| End-of-life treatment of sold products | (19,833) | 22,605 | 22,424 | Calculated by multiplying the CFP data of main products by the number of these products. In the case of businesses for which CFP data is not available, calculated by multiplying the sales ratio. |
| Downstream leased assets | (941) | 647 | 1,194 | Calculated by determining annual power consumption of leased products and multiplying it by the CO2 emission factor published by The Electric Power Council for a Low Carbon Society. |
